15 Years as a recruitment consultant

15 years ago, recruitment consultant Annabel Lewis joined Headway. Working in our permanent division, Annabel has a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to recruitment. We decided to ask her about her time with Headway, and her 15 years as a recruitment consultant.

You’ve been with Headway Recruitment for 15 years, that’s pretty impressive. What is it that’s kept you with the company?

Headway is a great company to work for. As an employee you really do feel part of a great team that all work together and support one another. They also give me autonomy in my role, and I’m able to manage my own workload.Ideas and input are welcomed. And of course, the staff social events are always fun! All of these factors make you feel part of the business and its success.

What are your main responsibilities? What are your particular areas of expertise?

I specialise in the recruitment of permanent staff for a variety of industries, particularly focussing on office and management positions. My area of expertise would be the ability to listen to and understand the needs of both my clients and candidates. Having 15 years of experience means I’m able to get to grips with what my clients and candidates want. I offer a consultative approach which leads to forming long lasting relationships.

In terms of the recruitment industry as a whole, do you feel it’s changed for the better since you entered the profession? Or are there things that are worse?

Things have changed massively since I joined the industry. Technology has improved the speed of recruitment and access to top talent. Headway has really moved with the times and our approach now enables us to dig deeper into candidate’s personalities and working styles through psychometric profiling.& It means we can match clients and candidates and create the perfect fit for both parties.

If you could give someone thinking of becoming a recruitment consultant one piece of advice, what would it be?

Choose your agency carefully. There are a lot of agencies out there that are only interested in making money at any cost! Make sure you find one that puts its people, clients and candidates first. Just like Headway!

What’s the thing you enjoy most about being in recruitment?

You can never beat that feeling of offering a candidate the job they really wanted. Your work and effort can really change a person’s life.
